Entrant: Max Jason Mai (Miroslav Šmajda)
Rock musician, singer-songwriter and rhythm guitarist Max Jason Mai is 23 years old. The versatile artist will represent Slovakia with his rock song Don’t Close Your Eyes.
Max Jason Mai is a rock musician, singer-songwriter and rhythm guitarist born on November 27th, 1988 in Slovakia. He believes that music can and should change the world, he loves people with a sense of humour and the good things in life. Be they music, sports, yoga, love, or nature. He reveres all living beings, that’s why he’s vegetarian and he doesn’t wear clothes made from leather, as he wouldn’t want to be a handbag either.
MJM is influenced by a wide range of artists of several genres, especially rock, for example Led Zeppelin, Whitesnake, Alter Bridge, 30 Seconds To Mars, Dream Theater, Metallica, John Mayer, Enigma, Sade, Ennio Morricone, Antonin Dvorak. He recorded his song for ESC 2012 and his first single Don’t Close Your Eyes with the American record producer Michael “Elvis” Baskette.
On November, MJM was announced as the Slovakian representative, but later there were doubts on the agreement between RTVS and MJM’s management, so RTVS said that they would keep looking for another entrant, however on March 7th MJM was announced again the Slovak representative.
Entry: Don’t Close Your Eyes
Don’t Close Your Eyes was internally selected by RTVS, there were more entries with a chance of representing Slovakia, but this was selected. This song is outstanding because is the only actual rock song this year, We are the Heroes from Belarus was revamped and now, the most accurate gender for it is pop. To record it, MJM sell his car in order to travel to the United States, so he really believes in himself, let’s hope that Slovakia finally qualifies!
This year seems to have the best chance of qualifying for Slovakia because the Second Semifinal is full of ballads and this is the only rock song to be performed, and it will be of the last performances of the night, that might help.
Don’t Close Your Eyes is both composed and penned by Max Jason Mai himself.
Tomorrow we will introduce the Norwegian entry, note that the entries will be introduced according to the running order!
