Introducing 2012: Latvia!

All the entries for the 2012 contest have been selected and now My Eurovision Diary will introduce them to you!

Entrant: Anmary

She was born in a distant 1980, in the year that Johnny Logan won….Does that sounds familiar to you?

Anmary begins singing her life story during Beautiful Song, it tells the story of a girl who dreams about walking on to the world stage, but allowing herself some humble pride while imagining life as a superstar.

She was born in the rural town of Gulbene. She admits that music has been a part of her world since childhood. Her father would sing lullabies and play the guitar for her, and her mother encouraged her to enrol in music school, where she learned to play the piano. She started her stage career in the televised reality show TheTalent Factory, where she earned the runners up spot.

In the past Anmary has taken part in a variety of musical projects, has performed in the musical West Side Story, and been the lead vocalist for the groups Sunny Sense and Mash Mash. She has demonstrated her vocal skills to listeners elsewhere in Europe too. Dr. Christoph Schönherr, composer and professor at the Hamburg College of Music and Theatre, chose Anmary to sing solo in his work Magnificat, which toured with the Hamburg Symphony Orchestra around Germany, Spain, France and Belgium.

Song: ‘Beautiful Song’

This song was composed by Ivars Makstnieks and penned by Rolands Ūdris.

It’s one of the songs that have been revamped, I personally think that the new version is way better! 🙂

Tomorrow we will introduce the Albanian entry, note that the entries will be introduced according to the running order!

  1. The Abbaesque song that will represent Latvia this year has a very beautiful melody but unfortunately, neither the orchestration nor the lyrics (which were clearly not written by a native speaker) are on par with the melody. I really wonder how they will stage it in Baku but keep my fingers crossed for sweet Anmary although I don’t have high hopes that she will qualify. Finally, the line ‘I was born in distant nineteen-eighty’ brings me close to depression every time I listen to this beautiful song. LOL 7/12 and 17th place on my pre-rehearsals list.

  2. This is my guilty pleasure of the year. It’s fun and it does not take itself too seriously. 🙂 She performs it well live.

    • And it is rather sad because I have seen so many ESC blogs that started full of enthusiasm and then just died the next season like Nick’s blog that kicked off last year. I checked it the other day, and the latest news was on Ivi’s three song for the Cypriot NF. I hope that this one will have a longer life because I really like the introductions so far and there have been more news than anywhere else in the last couple of days. 🙂

      • Indeed, Ive just voted in the available poll. I haven’t been voting in polls thus far, but I did here. I like the site too.
